Something Wild Growing Back There.....

This is the time of year when we spruce up the backyard! It is now, when we welcome back those wonderful temperatures! That means that the kids can play outside and I can open the blinds and let some sunshine in, without heating up the entire house! It is now that I am reminded of how it is possible to get through those hot, hot, months of summer. Well, with the exception of this weekend because we will be back to 100 degrees!

Anyway, yesterday morning was cool enough to get outside and pull some weeds, trim some over grown shrubs, and mow the lawn. I was pulling weeds when I noticed some wildly growing vine, that I was sure was a weed that would soon be taking over the yard!

I asked Kelly if he could come figure out where it was growing from so he could pull it out. After he rummaged through it for a bit, he called me back over, and said "come look at this!"

So it wasn't a wild weed growing! Just a wild watermelon plant growing! Kelly then remembered that months ago, after eating a slice of watermelon, he threw some seeds in the flower bed.

I don't know if it will taste any good, but we have successfully (although unknowingly) grown our first watermelon!

Congratulations on your first!! When you told me about your watermelon I pictured a litte cantalope sized melon, but that is a good size. You should open up a produce market : )

What a pleasant surprise! If you can do it by accident, maybe I can do it on purpose. :)

That is crazy! I can't believe it to take the heat. Was it red inside? After much nourishment & perfect temps, ours were always white & yucky.

Wow you really did grow a watermelon and we tried and all we got was a long yellow vine and a little shriveled up bulb. Sad huh!
